Emissions Reductions Program

NIRPC works with Clean Car Check and Hoosier Helpers to help make people aware of the programs in Northwest Indiana that can help reduce emissions from your vehicle.

Clean Air Car Check

Clean Air Car Check LogoThe Clean Car Check is a free emissions testing program that is offered at a variety of locations in Northwest Indiana.  For locations and hours of operation click here.  You can also call the Clean Air Car Check Hotline at 888-240-1684.

For more information on WHY your vehicle needs to get tested click here.

Hoosier Helpers

The Hoosier Helpers are the Indiana Department of Transportation's Freeway Service Patrol (FSP).  Hoosier Helpers patrol the Borman Expressway (Interstate 80/94) and help clear incidents quickly to ease traffic and help broken down cars on the highway to help keep the highway clear.  Hoosier Helpers aid nearly 20,000 motorists each year.  Hoosier Helpers also patrol I-65 from US 30 in Merrillville to 15th Avenue in Gary at peak travel times.  Three units are in operation at all times and can be reached by dialing 911 and asking for a Hoosier Helper.

For additional information on your car and how it relates to air quality check out the section on alternative fuels, the eXtraordinary roadtrip, and the downloads section for a downloadable car care booklet.
