NIRPC to host Emissions Testing Educational Event
Federal, state and regional officials to serve as panelists

Portage, IN – The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) Environmental Management Policy Committee will host an Emissions Testing Educational Event, February 7th, organizers announced today.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, February 7 at NIRPC, 6100 Southport Road in Portage. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Panelists include Francisco Acevedo of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Scott Deloney of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Kathy Luther of NIRPC and Jennifer Sanders of Opus Inspection/Envirotest Systems. Lauri Keagle of South Shore Clean Cities will serve as moderator.

The event will cover topics such as the history of the vehicle emissions testing program in Lake and Porter counties at the federal and state levels, how and why Indiana administers the program, regional transportation funding associated with the program, financial assistance options for those who fail the test as well as the consequences of discontinuing the program.
