Illiana Project Overview

Illiana Expressway Project

The Indiana and Illinois Departments of Transportation are actively working on a new limited-access highway facility from I-65 south of Crown Point, Indiana, to I-55 south of Joliet, Illinois.  This facility, the Illiana Expressway, would connect the south Chicago suburbs with Northwest Indiana along its proposed 47-mile route.  The process behind the development of the expressway is complex, and this web page serves as an information clearinghouse regarding important dates and documents relating to NIRPC’s actions regarding the facility. Documents include public comments received as well as staff analysis and other relevant material.  Please view the ILLIANA Expressway Project and Frequently Asked Questions pages to find additional content regarding the project.

On December 12, 2013 the NIRPC Commission voted to approve all of the proposed amendments regarding the Illiana Expressway (Please see the images below for the breakdown of the weighted voting). The INDOT/IDOT Illiana Project Corridor team maintains a website that is continually updated with project information and contact information to provide public comments as the Illiana moves forward.
