South Shore Extension
The West Lake Corridor is a proposed extension of NICTD’s South Shore Line commuter service south from its current route. The current proposal is to build an eight-mile extension south from the current line to Munster and Dyer, with possible future extensions to Lowell and Valparaiso. While the idea of the West Lake Corridor has existed for several years, it is now starting to gain momentum. This possible expansion of transit service within Northwest Indiana would represent a major step in fulfilling the vision of greater transit accessibility expressed in NIRPC’s 2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan.
This page is meant to serve as an information portal as the West Lake Corridor proposal moves forward, especially if and when direct action by NIRPC is required. Please visit the NICTD West Lake Corridor Project Website for more information.
